Ballroom dancing class on the studio floor
Mon · Tue · Thu evenings

Ballroom

Our Ballroom classes begin with the Slow Rhythm, which forms the basis of many ballroom dances, before introducing the Waltz and Quickstep. The Intermediate class goes on to Tango, which asks for greater speed and technique, and introduces the Viennese Waltz and Slow Foxtrot.

Classes run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. If you would like to learn both Ballroom and Latin, you can take them back-to-back across two hours on a Monday (beginners) or Tuesday (intermediate), with a discount applied.

  • Beginners: Slow Rhythm, Quickstep, Waltz
  • Intermediate: Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot
Latin dance class in progress
Mon & Tue evenings

Latin

Our Latin classes cover the five key dances: Cha Cha, Rhumba, Samba, Jive and Paso Doble. Beginners focus on the basics of Cha Cha, Rhumba, Samba and Jive. Once you are confident, Intermediate Latin perfects your steps and introduces Paso Doble and more Jive. Advanced Paso Doble and Jive can be taken further through medal classes.

Beginners Latin runs Monday evenings, Intermediate Latin Tuesday evenings. You can pair Latin with a Ballroom class back-to-back for a reduced term fee.

Salsa dancing
Monday evenings

Salsa

Salsa began in New York with strong Latin American, African and European influences. It is danced in a pattern of six steps over eight counts, with plenty of turning and hip movement. No prior experience needed, and our salsa classes are always social, fun and popular. Classes run Monday evenings for beginners and intermediate dancers.

Rock n' Roll dancing
Wednesday evenings

Rock n' Roll

Popular from the 1940s through the swinging 60s, Rock 'n' Roll is energetic, easy to learn and a lot of fun. The basic pressure step makes it quick to pick up, so you spend less time on footwork and more on the energy and bounce of the dance.

Beginners master the rhythm through basic footwork, kicks, turns and swivels. Intermediate builds on that with advanced turns, arm movements and positions. Classes run Wednesday evenings, including a two-hour Rock n' Roll, Jive & Swing class.

New Vogue sequence dancing
Friday evenings

New Vogue

New Vogue is a uniquely Australian style of sequence ballroom. Once you learn the set steps, you can dance them anywhere with any partner. Unlike Ballroom and Latin, where the leader carries much of the dance, both partners learn the same sequence, which makes New Vogue easier for beginners to start.

The dances follow 16 or 32 bar sequences across Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, March and Tango rhythms. Classes run Friday evenings.

American Smooth dancing
Thursday evenings, with Ros Hendry

American Smooth

American Smooth, or Ballroom Smooth, is one of the best styles for social dancing. Because you are not required to stay in hold the whole time, there is more freedom of movement for both partners, including underarm turns, travelling chasses and changes of place. We teach all four Smooth dances to international standards: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz. Classes run Thursday evenings with Ros Hendry.

Swing Jive dancing
Wednesday evenings

Swing Jive

Swing Jive is a great class for anyone starting their journey towards Jive. Traditional Ballroom Jive is fast and technical, so Swing Jive offers a slower version danced to rhythm and blues, with more compact, circular figures that are easier and very enjoyable to learn. Classes run Wednesday evenings, including a combined Rock n' Roll and Jive class.
